Ghana @ 70 Anniversary

This 9-day Sunseekers Tours journey celebrates Ghana’s 70th Independence by tracing the country’s history from pre-colonial times to freedom and beyond.
It starts in Accra and Kumasi with city landmarks, royal palaces, and markets, then moves to the Central Region to reflect deeply at Assin Manso, Cape Coast Castle, and Elmina Castle — powerful sites of the transatlantic slave trade.
The tour continues to Sekondi’s Bisa Aberwa Museum and Saltpond, highlighting key moments and figures of the independence movement, including Nkrumah and the “Big Six.”
You’ll be in Accra for the main Independence Day celebrations on March 6th, with a re-enactment of the declaration speech, march past, and a farewell traditional dinner.
The trip ends with a relaxed morning of shopping and an airport transfer, leaving you with a profound connection to Ghana’s resilience, culture, and freedom story

National Museum
National Museum of history and ethnography that houses a collection of various Ghanaian artifacts
Old Accra - Ga Mashie
Victoria Dutch & post-colonial architecture. James Fort (1673), Usher Fort (1649), light house and more
Nkrumah Memorial Park
Burial place of the first President of Ghana, visited by world dignitaries
Arts & Crafts Market
Your last stop for the tour where you may try out your bargaining skills on the local vendors and to "shop till you drop".

The Enslaved Dungeons

A UNESCO Heritage built by Swedes 1652.
Served as a British HQ until 1877. Visited by Obama, Steve Harvey, Danny Glover & more.
Elmina Castle
Built by Portuguese 1482. Oldest & largest European structure in sub-Saharan Africa.
UNESCO Heritage that was used to as an auction market for enslaved Africans.Early dinner at Mabel's Table — owned by an African American family.

Day 06 :

Elmina → Bisa Aberwa Museum → Elmina

Sekondi was a cradle of Ghana’s independence movement. Home to the first Gold Coast Trade Union Congress (1945). Its railway workers answered Nkrumah’s call in January 1950, leading a two-week 'Positive Action' general strike that paralyzed colonial operations and accelerated the path to independence.
Breakfast
Depart (∼2hrs) to Bisa Aberwa Museum, Sekondi — created by acclaimed filmmaker Kwaw Paintsil Ansah. The museum chronicles African humanity through the slave dungeons, plantation life, the Civil Rights Movement, and the election of the first African American president. A powerful testament: 'We tell the African story.'
Lunch in Takoradi. Return to Cape Coast/Elmina.

Day 07 :

6 Hours Drive Time Elmina → Saltpond → Accra

Saltpond — the 'cradle of Ghanaian politics' — is where the UGCC (1947) and Nkrumah's CPP (1949) were born, setting the course for independence.

Evening: Join hundreds of Ghana to observe the re-enactment Eve of March 6, 1957 – Kwame Nkrumah surrounded by the rest of the “Big Six” delivers his Independence Declaration Speech with a heavy touch of Nzema accent betraying his English pronunciations.
