Depart for a scenic 5Hr drive through forested areas and the Kwahu Highland ranges journey to Kumasi and explore the Asante Golden Kingdom. Breakfast Depart Kumasi to Elmina in the Central Region. Make a detour to go on a city tour of Kumasi visiting the Manhyia Palace and the Palace Museum. See the National Cultural Centre, Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Okomfo Anokye Sword and the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa. Continue to Elmina driving through several cocoa farming communities. Note the change in vegetation from forest to coastal savannah. Stop to visit the DONKO NSUO (the slave river) where the African captives were allowed to take their last bath in waters of their native land before transported to the slave dungeons for shipment to the Americas and Caribbean See also the burial site of the remains of two ancestors and a third exhumed from New York’s Wall Street & Kingston Jamaica and re-interred on the Emancipation Day The third ancestor was also brought and interred by the Prime Minister of Barbados in November 2019 as part of the “YEAR OF RETURN” GHANA 2019. Breakfast Visit the Kakum National Park and go on a hike in the forest to experience the canopy walkway suspended 100ft from the forest ground. Continue to visit the Cape Coast Castle UNESCO Heritage Site which was originally started by the Swedes in 1652 for a comprehensive guided tour of the Castle, the slave dungeons and the West African Heritage Museum, and the negotiation hall where our ancestors were bargained for and sold.
